Finding Sheriff Sales

Sheriff sales are public auctions where foreclosures are sold to the highest bidder. The process a property takes to a sheriff sale auction begins when the homeowner of the property fails to pay the mortgage. After the mortgage is a few months in arrears, the lender begins the process of repossessing the property. This process is known as foreclosure. The lender first notifies the homeowner and files papers to the effect that the foreclosure process has started. Then, after the period of time dictated by state laws – usually 90 days or 12 months – the lender puts the property up for sale at a foreclosures auction.
